This Bud's for InBev
Jul 14 - A month after its first official bid, InBev finally signs a deal to take over Budweiser parent Anheuser-Busch. After 150 years as a family business, Anheuser-Busch agrees to a $52 billion dollar takeover bid from Belgium's InBev. Bobbi Rebell reports.
Shamu for Sale: Anheuser-Busch, InBev, and the future of SeaWorld
Anheuser-Busch announced on the evening of July 13, 2008 that it would the company to Belgian brewing company, InBev, for $52 Billion. While Budweiser shall remain a brand owned by InBev, it doesn't look as good for Shamu and all his friends at SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, Discovery Cove, and Aquatica, and the more than 20,000 employees who work for Busch Entertainment Corporation, the entertainment subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch Inc.
The entertainment division of the company is estimated to be worth about $3 Billion, which narrows down the list of potential buyers. One would assume either Disney, Universal Studios, or Six Flags are the future buyers. Six Flags has a large amount of debt, Disney isn't in the business of marine parks, and Universal has a hard enough time getting funding from NBC as it is.
The purchase isn't expected to be completed until the end of the year. Given the ill state of the tourism industry and even sicker economy, who knows if this is a realistic goal.
SeaWorld recently raised their admission to $70 per ticket, which is the equivalent of one share of the new Anheuser-Busch, Inc.
Anheuser-Busch bought the parks nearly 20 years ago from Harcourt Brace Jovanovich for $1.1 Billion. It is estimated that InBev will get between $3-4 Billion for Busch Entertainment Corp.
SeaWorld announced earlier this year that it will be building a resort island in Dubai, United Arab Emirates that will include a SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, Discovery Cove, and Aquatica.
If you have any questions about SeaWorld or Anheuser-Busch, please post them!
