According to a senior Pakistani police officer, a car bomb exploded outside a police station that has killed at least three people and wounded 15. It happened in the town of Mardan in northwest Pakistan. The officer says the car was parked outside the police station and was packed with explosives. The explosion damaged the station and several nearby shops. One police officer also lost his life.

The blast broke a lull in Islamist militant attacks on security forces that had held since a new government came to power at the end of March. It's still unclear who's responsible for the attack.

Tragedy struck India's western city of Jaipur on Tuesday. Seven bombs exploded, killing around 60 people in markets and outside Hindu temples.
STORY:
The bombs, many strapped to bicycles, exploded within minutes of each other on Tuesday evening in Jaipur's pink walled city, a magnet for foreign tourists.
It was the deadliest bomb attack in India in nearly two years.
Police officers said no group had admitted responsibility for the blasts. Television channels quoted government and intelligence officials as blaming Pakistani or Bangladeshi Islamist militant groups.
[Sri Prakash Jaiswal, Junior Interior Minister]:
"This is an act carried out by a group bent on disturbing the
communal harmony of our country. It has been done in a very planned
manner."
At the main government hospital in Jaipur, more than 100 people crowded
around the doors of the emergency ward, many screaming for information about
their relatives. Police officers at the doors yelled for people to give blood.
[Sohail Akhtar, Local Shopkeeper]:
"At 7.23 the blast occurred. I was sitting inside my shop and my son was sitting on a scooter outside the shop. There was a sudden blast, injuring my son and his head started bleeding. He was admitted to the government hospital. One of my employee suffered wounds in the stomach and his kidney had to be removed."
[Jitender, Blast Victim]:
"I was standing outside the temple when I felt an explosion behind me. And then I lost my senses."
Police and state government officials say some or all of the bombs were
left on bicycles and detonated using timers. Police were able to defuse and eighth bomb.
Two bombs were planted near Hindu temples, where large crowds gather
every Tuesday in honor of the monkey God Hanuman.
In the past few years a string of bomb blasts in Indian cities have killed hundreds of people.
