Episodic Game Prequels Upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures' Film Based on DC Comics' Award-Winning Graphic Novel Last update: 7:00 p.m. EDT July 23, 2008 game captures the action and intrigue of the "Watchmen" feature film, directed by Zack Snyder, who previously helmed the blockbuster "300." The screenplay for "Watchmen" is by David Hayter and Alex Tse, based on the award-winning graphic novel illustrated by Dave Gibbons and published by DC Comics. The film is produced by Lawrence Gordon ("Die Hard"), Lloyd Levin ("United 93") and Deborah Snyder ("300"), with Herbert W. Gains ("The Brave One") and Thomas Tull ("The Dark Knight") serving as executive producers. "Watchmen" is a presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and Paramount Pictures in association with Legendary Pictures.

1Up has an exclusive first look at Watchmen, the upcoming videogame prequel to the ground-breaking 12-issue comic book series and movie adaptation. Coming from Warner Bros. Warner Bros. has partnered with Deadline Games to create at least two downloadable games based on the Watchmen film. While video games based on films tend to suck large, Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment (WBIE) is hoping they can make an exception with the upcoming big screen adaptation of Watchmen. Instead of rushing out a film tie-in for the movie's March 2009 release, Warner plans on creating a pair of shorter, downloadable games based on the movie, Variety reports. Hoping to have more flexibility to create a high quality product with a shorter production schedule, Warner is looking to avoid the usual trap games tied to films experience: a rushed game that nobody likes.

But you won’t be able to buy these games in stores, instead WBI will be releasing them for download for the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The first game is expected in March 2009, around the time of the film’s theatrical release. A follow-up will hit in time for the film’s home video release. Many fans believed that it would be impossible to make a feature film out of the acclaimed graphic novel. Some of those naysayers are beginning to change their tune.
