Rockstar's latest pushes total industry growth in April to 47 percent; Mario Kart Wii lane-splits Xbox 360 and PS3 edition on sales charts.

With 1.12 million copies tallied, Mario Kart Wii outsold the PS3 edition of GTAIV (1 million sold), but fell shy of the Xbox 360 edition's 1.85 million copies. Although it was beaten out by Mario Kart Wii, the third-place finish on the sales charts for the PS3 edition of GTAIV is the best yet for a game on Sony's latest console. GTA IV sold 1.85 million units on 360 vs. 1 million on PS3, while hardware sales for both platforms mysteriously failed to top 200K. Regardless, the Wii once again was in complete control.

The GTA-less Wii sold 714.2K units while the DS sold 414.8K. Rounding out hardware, the PSP sold 192.7K and the PS2 sold 124.4K.

SAN FRANCISCO - The video games industry grew 47% in April compared to the same month a year ago, reaching $1.23 billion in sales of game devices, software and accessories.
The strong sales were led by the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV title, according to the monthly video games sales data from research firm, The NPD Group.
