India: Death toll rises from series of bomb attacks

Ahmedabad, 27 July (AKI/Asian Age) - India was on high alert at the weekend after a series of bomb blasts killed at least 38 people in the western city of Ahmedabad on Saturday night.
More than 100 people were injured in 17 explosions, which targeted crowded markets, public transport and hospitals within a period of 70 minutes.

"In all these cases they have created the blast using timer devices," Bangalore Commissioner of Police Shankar Bidari told reporters at the site of one of the blasts. "Explosives have also been used, in quantity equal to one or two grenades."
