The mystery of metal spikes planted in a popular, urban lake in Seattle may have been solved, after more than 40 additional spikes were found Friday by volunteer divers.
Although there is an ongoing police investigation, there is also growing speculation that the spikes were not planted maliciously as some city officials thought last week. Instead they may have been used to hold down plastic sheeting two decades ago in an attempt to discourage the growth of milfoil in the lake.
