TORONTO, July 23, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) - BMO Field, home to Major League Soccer's Toronto FC, and the site of international soccer matches involving the Canadian national teams, will host the 2008 Pepsi MLS All-Star Game. The MLS all-stars will play against West Ham United of England's Premier League on the industry-best soccer specific FieldTurf pitch on Thursday, July 24.
The FieldTurf surface at BMO Field is the latest in synthetic turf innovation and was initially installed in April 2007. When West Ham United officials were offered a chance to play the MLS All-Stars, they saw the match as an opportunity for the club to continue their preseason conditioning, starting with a friendly Sunday in Columbus, where the Hammers beat the Columbus Crew 3-1 in a match marred by crowd violence.
The English contingent arrived in Toronto on Monday and planned training sessions the next two days. The Hammers prepare for their Premiership opener Aug. 16 vs. Wigan.

Landon Donovan is not exactly Toronto's favourite visitor. The fans at BMO Field have taken a liking to bashing the American international, who has a Major League Soccer-leading 12 goals this season.

West Ham United head coach Alan Curbishley was amused to learn that several Toronto FC supporters groups attending Thursday's Major League Soccer All-Star Game were planning to cheer for West Ham, rather than a team comprised of just one TFC player (Jim Brennan) and several rivals. These supporters' groups were even planning to learn the lyrics to the West Ham anthem, "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles."
