BRUNSWICK - Municipalities and organizations throughout the Mid-coast region are planning events to observe Memorial Day. Unless otherwise noted, all events are planned for Monday. Here is a listing of the details:

The annual Memorial Day parade and ceremonies will be held Monday, May 26. The parade will start promptly at 10 a.m. from Legion Hall, proceed down Beach Street to Main Street to School Street then to Pleasant Street and into Beech Grove Cemetery.
Memorial services will be held at the Legion Lot in the cemetery. Lt. Commander Brian Sullivan will lead the ceremony. Lt. Paul Brawley, U.S. Navy Reserve, will be the guest speaker and the Grand Marshal will be Chief Yoeman Paul Sargent.

One of the nation's oldest flag-raising ceremonies honored Wisconsin veterans Friday morning in La Crosse. After 86 years, Central High School still holds the ceremony every year. Roses are placed by the schools memorial to fallen soldiers. The American flag is also raised. Central's entire student body of about 115 people was there.
The Tomah Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center is holding its annual Memorial Day program Friday afternoon. This year's program will pay tribute to more than ninety men and women from Wisconsin who lost their lives in operation Iraqi freedom and operation enduring freedom. The event is on the front steps of building 400 at 1:30 Friday afternoon. The Tomah Senior High School band will perform. There's an ice cream social following the ceremony.
