Washington: The Republican presidential hopeful, John McCain, let his frustration with the U.S. media boil over on Tuesday for its coverage of Senator Barack Obama’s visit to West Asia and Europe.
Mr. McCain, upset over the extent to which his campaign has been eclipsed, launched a video on the Internet entitled Obama Love, with quotes from TV anchors and journalists that he regards as evidence of bias. It came the day after Mr. McCain protested over what he saw as another sign of bias, a rejection of a comment article on Iraq he submitted to the New York Times.

After a couple days of nonstop kvetching from the McCain campaign about how Barack Obama gets so much more press attention than their guy, they've decided to cancel his only press availability of the week. Is McCain trying to duck questions about the timelines of the surge and the Awakening and about his comments suggesting Obama was content to "lose a war"? Or did someone on the campaign just realize that less coverage is actually better when you're stumbling this badly?

In John Carlson's Op-Ed, "Barack Obama's often-shifting policies of change" [Valley Record, July 9], a number of position changes are cited as evidence of inconsistency and inability to stay the course. Of course, unmentioned are the detailed explanations Obama has provided for each of these moves.
For example, Carlson's flagship sample of Obama changing his mind is his decision to forego public financing of his campaign, so his campaign can spend more than the limit imposed for acceptance. Carlson is right - Obama did this because his army of supporters is on track to contribute twice as much or more than the $84.1 million spending limit imposed by public financing. This

I wrote a couple posts yesterday: one questioning whether the media is providing more favorable coverage to Obama and the other about the timing of the Sunni Awakening relative to the surge of U.S. forces in Iraq.
In a related story, it would seem CBS News edited, prior to showing, a video of John McCain falsely arguing the Sunni Awakening was a result of the surge.
ions share of coverage. And that's apparently enough for some to claim the media is biased in Obama's favor.

The New York Times' Maureen Dowd points out a visual contrast this week that's going to be remembered for some time. "The image of John McCain in a golf cart with Bush 41 in Kennebunkport â with Poppy charmingly admitting that they were âa little jealousâ of all the Obama odyssey coverage â was not a good advertisement for the future, especially contrasted with the shots of Gen. David Petraeus and Obama smiling at each other companionably in a helicopter surveying Iraq. (Asked by a Democratic lawmaker a while back why there werenât more Democrats in the military, General Petraeus smiled slyly and said âthere are more than you think.â)"

ABC News' Bret Hovell Reports: The McCain campaign had a small bit of fun in store for the press corps traveling with the presumptive Republican nominee Tuesday night – a press credential playing on one of their themes from Tuesday: that the media is in love with McCain's Democratic rival, Sen. Barack Obama.
After the campaign touched down in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Tuesday evening, the press staff handed out the credential.

aints about media bias have galvanized conservatives, which could help McCain as he tries to solidify the Republican base. In February, the campaign sought donations by citing a widely criticized New York Times report about McCain's ties to a female lobbyist. That appeal set a campaign record for the amount raised online in one day to that point.
