By Heather Burke July 23 (Bloomberg) - Amazon.com Inc., the world's largest Internet retailer, posted second-quarter profit that exceeded analysts' estimates after consumers bought more toys and electronics overseas.

Amazon.com - posted Q2 revenues of $4.06 billion and profits of 37 cents a share, beating the Street consensus of $3.96 billion and 26 cents. The company noted that sales were up 41% year-over-year, or 35% adjusted for currency factors.
Update: I should note that operating income in the quarter of $217 million was aided by a $53 million non-cash gain from the sale of the company’s European DVD rental assets. Back that out, and the huge beat goes away; I calculate the number would have been 27 cents, rather than 37 cents, and a beat of a penny, rather than 11 cents.
